Columbia Grove Connection Center

Membership Section 3 – How Stuff Gets Done at Columbia Grove

Together we seek God’s leading by the Holy Spirit.

The most major decisions are made by our membership. (Budgets, Major Purchases, Officers, Pastors, etc.)

Our Members elect a Leadership Team that guides the monthly decisions. (Strategic Planning, Financial Oversight, etc.) The Leadership Team oversees the Lead Pastor.

The Lead Pastor leads and oversees the Staff.

The Staff provides support to our Ministry Team Leaders and Connection Group Leaders.

We all volunteer together to serve God by serving people.

Together we reach and serve our congregation, community and world.

Ready to Become a Member?

There are the five steps to becoming a member.

Step 1.

Watch our “About Membership” videos, and answer the online quizzes. In the process, you’ll receive an overview of 1) what membership means at Columbia Grove, and the mission we are asking you join 2) the history and theological distinctives of Columbia Grove and The Evangelical Covenant Church, and 3) our organizational structure and how things get done at Columbia Grove.

Yay for you! If you’ve found this page, you’ve probably already done that. If not, here are the links to go back and cover the core material you need to know.

Section #1 – Why Membership?

Section #2 – The Covenant Church – Its History and Theological Distinctives.

Step 2.

Attend a Membership Class: These are presented about four times a year, each lasting about two hours.  Childcare is available with prior notice. Assuming you’ve watched the membership videos first, this time is devoted to answering your questions and helping you consider your call and fit in Columbia Grove.  This class is hosted by Pastor Andrew and the church staff.  Our next class is Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 11:30 am.

If after hearing where we come from and what we’re about, and having any questions addressed, you want to pursue membership, here’s what would happen next:

Step 3.

You would fill out a CGCC Membership Application Form. We want to hear about how you came to know Jesus, your gifts and talents for ministry, your hopes and dreams for the church, and how we can best support you in your walk with Christ.

Step 4.

Share how you came to Christ, and what He means to you in your life today at a Membership Interview. We want to hear and celebrate your journey to faith – and learn how we can best support you as you follow Christ. This time of sharing is informal and happens in a small group setting with members of our Membership Interview Team. The discussion will be guided by the questions found on the last page of the Membership Application Form.

Step 5.

Your application will be reviewed by our Leadership Team. Finally, we formally welcome you into membership at a worship service in the following month. At this service, you will be asked to answer “I do” to the following four questions. At its most basic, these are the things we ask and expect from every member:

  1. Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and promise to follow him as Lord?
  2. You have made public confession of your faith and have been baptized. Do you accept the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments as the word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct?
  3. Do you intend to live among God’s faithful people, to hear God’s word and share in the Lord’s Supper, to proclaim the good news of Christ through word and deed, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
  4. Do you also promise to support the ministries of this church, including the conference and denomination to which we belong?

Let us know how we can help and support you in your walk with Christ. You can contact our office at 509-884-4001 or
