Dear Columbia Grove Friends,
We are in the process of searching for an Associate Pastor of Discipleship. One of the first steps in searching is appointing a Search Committee. Our members voted unanimously on November 18, 2012 to authorize our Nominating Committee to find candidates who could serve on that Search Committee. Through many conversations and emails, they have done that. You can see the results of their work below. We’ve been blessed with many willing and capable people who have offered to help!
Sunday, January 20, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Our membership voted to authorize the following people to serve as our Search Committee.
- Bob Floyd
- Carrie Long
- Bill Shea
- Gayla Toften
- Carrie Venable Byrd
- Andrew Toth (Appointed Leadership Team Liaison.)
- Pastor Andrew Thompson
This empowers this Pastoral Search Committee to:
- Prepare a church/community information packet.
- Meet with the North Pacific Conference Superintendent to receive names of interested pastoral candidates.
- Review and prioritize names of potential pastoral candidates.
- Make telephone contacts with potential pastoral candidates.
- Conduct telephone interviews with potential pastoral candidates.
- Invite potential pastoral candidates to visit the community and meet with the Pastoral Search Committee.
- Identify and invite one pastor for a candidating visit with the congregation.
- Recommend one candidate to the congregation to extend a call to.
Once a candidate is recommended, it becomes the congregation’s decision whether or not to extend a call to that potential pastor.
To accomplish this difficult task, the Search Committee will be leaning heavily on congregational input, both from the results of the survey many of you have already filled out, possible additional surveys, and ongoing input from members of the congregation.
To help with the workload, the Nominating Committee has also formed an additional team to serve as “Advisers to the Search Committee.” These are people who will be asked to participate at key points in the search process – points where the committee will need to hear from a trusted, cross section of the congregation in order to make the best decision. Though others in addition may also be called on for advisory input, we wanted you to be aware of the people who have already been asked to serve in this capacity.

We are looking forward to getting started with the search process and ask you to pray for all involved. We are seeking God’s leading and wisdom in the many decisions that will be a part of this process. We will keep you informed as things progress.
In Christ’s Love,
The Columbia Grove Leadership Team:
Dave Belton, Andrew Toth, Gene Halverson, Poppy Kelly, Bonnie Schwarck, Becci Piepel, Evan Anderson, Shawn Cox and Pastor Andrew Thompson.
P.S. Please contact us with any questions you might have about our Search Process. Thanks!
